As part of efforts to support the Federal Government's Transformation Agenda in the agriculture sector, an indigenous Fertilizer Producer Company, Crystalizer Nigeria Limited has produced Kieserite Fertilizer with the chemical content of 27.22 percent mgo/47 percent SiO2 to assist farmers in Oil Palm growing areas of the country to achieve optimum yield.
Disclosing this to newsmen at the weekend, the Chairman/Managing Director of the firm, Brig. General Dantsoho Mohammed (Rtd) said, the brand called booster to oil palm production is produced from organic material of magnesium, calcium, silica and nitrogen and has undergone many years of intensive research by the Institute of Agriculture Research, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
According to him, the Institute tested the product on all crops with emphasis on all trees crops and has been vastly used by farmers in oil palm growing areas of the country.
He said the components of the products are locally resourced and can last up to 100 years or more to the benefit of tree crops producers in the country.
The Chairman called on the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to give the product a trial to find out the effectiveness on the crops for possible recommendation to large scale tree crops producers in the country.
He said that the benefit of the Kieserite fertilizer on tree crops include increase yield by up to 300 percent and more compared to other NPK type, application is only once from planting to harvest.
Other benefits according to him are eradication of striga weeds, provision of added source of silicon for tree crops production which is an important nutrient, retainance of soil fertility long after application and lasts more than three years, among others.
Brig. Gen. Dantsoho said the product would save the federal government a lot of money that would be used in importing same into the country, adding that "my office in Kaduna in conjunction with the factory in Kagara in Niger State where the major component is source can produce enough to satisfy tree crops producers and even export to other nations."
He said the product has been made affordable to farmers in order to encourage them to patronize "made in Nigeria: goods.
